Maurice Obstfeld, Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), said in Davos that the IMF considered that the concept of blockchain ledgers may have value.
Answering a question about the potential impact of bitcoin turbulence on IMF forecasts, Obstfeld said: “We don’t like to comment on specific cryptocurrencies (but) on blockchain technology in general we see possible advantages in terms of efficiency of payment systems and inclusion … We also see cryptocurrencies could also offer risks and it’s important for regulators to be watching carefully.”
